About BrooklynSpeaks:
as long as BrooklynSpeaks supports the arena and does not come out against the use of eminent domain and the destruction of the Pacific Street blocks (btwn 5th Ave to S. Portland Aves.), the South Oxford Street Block Association cannot support them. BrooklynSpeaks seems to be trying to play both sides.
On one page of their web site they state “Keep Pacific Street and Fifth Avenue open, and create new streets to connect surrounding neighborhoods.” Yet on another page they say: “Minimize traffic-generating aspects of the project, such as large-scale arena parking.“ This is contradictory.
There is no way the Ratner Group could build an arena and not destroy that block of Pacific Street. BrooklynSpeaks should clarify their position on the arena and eminent domain one way or the other. They should be insisting that the arena be built in either Coney Island or Queens - where they welcome the development.
Abby Weissman emailed Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz with questions about the sale of the Yards to Ratner for $100 million. Read his response and follow up correspondence.
